[ARCHIVED] Residential trash rates rise 5.5%

The City Council recently agreed to a 5.46% cost-of-living rate increase requested by Waste Management, in accordance with the August 2006 contract. This increase is consistent with the Dallas Fort Worth Consumer Price Index (CPI).
Waste Management explained that the increase was due to higher fuel expenses and other rising costs.
The firm provides residents twice weekly trash, bundled brush and bulky item pickup, weekly recycling and monthly loose brush collection.
According to the contract, if Waste Management increses rates next year the City has the right to terminate the contract.
