The Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission announced in August that the City of Cedar Hill will receive a $750,000 grant towards the City’s new community outdoor pool. Funding for the pool was approved by voters in the 2017 bond election, and Virginia Weaver Park was selected as the location of the new pool after an extensive site analysis.
The grant was a portion of just over $15 million in competitive local park grants approved by Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission to help fund projects that will create and enhance outdoor recreational opportunities like nature trails, native gardens, playgrounds, splash pads, dog parks and sports fields at 30 community parks across the state.
The grants, allocated to local government entities, appropriate state and federal funding dedicated for the acquisition and/or development of public recreation areas and facilities in Texas on a 50/50 reimbursement match basis. The commission, which administers the local park grants program for the state of Texas, awarded projects in various categories based on community population size and scope.
“Leveraging funding from our state, federal, and regional partners is a part of our DNA in Cedar Hill,” says Mayor Stephen Mason. “Through opportunities like these, Cedar Hill residents have access to award-winning facilities and are to enjoy premier amenities like the new outdoor pool at Virginia Weaver Park.”
The pool project is currently under design and City expects to begin construction in 2021. Learn more about the new outdoor pool and other projects in the 2017 bond program at cedarhilltx.com/bond.
