On the night of Feb. 29, 2008 Cedar Hill police officers responded to the residence of Judy Bell after receiving a call from that location about a burglary in progress. When officers arrived, Vaughn told officers an unknown assailant entered the house, shot Bell and fled.
Cedar Hill detectives have worked this case for the past 33 months, conducting investigations and interviews in three states. They have been assisted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, the US Army Criminal Investigation Command and the Oklahoma City Police Department.
New evidence provided key information in the case. Cedar Hill police detectives presented the facts to the Dallas County Grand Jury on Friday and received an indictment for Seidah Muhammad Vaughn for murder. Cedar Hill officers traveled to Oklahoma City today and made the arrest in cooperation with OKCPD.
Cedar Hill Police Chief Steve Rhodes said “Our detectives have worked diligently for nearly three years to solve this crime. We are pleased to be able to file charges and we are confident they will result in a conviction, giving family and friends closure on this tragic situation.”
Homicides are rare in Cedar Hill and there are currently no unsolved homicides. Cedar Hill continues to be one of the safest communities in Dallas County.
