[ARCHIVED] Education Foundation Gala set for Nov. 3

Gala Patrons Can Donate Directly to CHISD Programs.
The Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation has a new feature for its 9th Annual Gala. Patrons will be able to designate their donations to specific Cedar Hill ISD programs. This year's Viva Las Vegas! themed gala includes the music of Buddy's Big Band.

Donors will not only be able to bid on great products and services, they will also be able to make a donation directly to CHISD arts, science, technology, literacy, music and math programs. "Many donors prefer to direct their giving toward specific areas they are passionate about, and this gives them that opportunity," explained Denise Root, executive director of the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation.

Since 2004, the Cedar Hill ISD Education Foundation has awarded over $300,000 in grants for enrichment programs and educational projects in the Cedar Hill Independent School District. Some of the school projects the foundation has funded include:

Character Camp for first graders
Equipment for a sensory room for special education students
The VersaTile Algebra Readiness Lab provides an assessment tool for teachers and hands-on material for struggling math students in the seventh grade.
Orchestra instruments
Still and video camera units that allow students to develop multi-dimensional school projects.
Equipment for an organic classroom where students research, plan, design, and construct a garden of herbs, organic produce, wild flowers, plants, and butterflies utilizing math and science skills.

CHISD Fine Arts Director Ken Peach is the Director of Buddy's Big Band. He started with the band in 2001 as a trumpet player and became the director in 2003.

"I arranged a special version of Viva Las Vegas in the style of Elvis, just for this special event for the Foundation," said Ken Peach. "It will be fun to try and sing like Elvis…I will give it my best shot!"
