our proactive police-community partnerships to keep Cedar Hill safe."
The creation of the Crime Control and Prevention District in Cedar Hill, will not require a tax increase. It will be funded by reallocating 1/8 of 1% sales tax from the Economic Development Corporation to the Crime Control and Prevention District. It will fund the Police Department's Police And Community Together unit with officers and a sergeant working directly with residents to strengthen neighborhood ties with the department and develop neighborhood watch groups.
Financial data from neighboring communities indicate that the sale of beer and wine for off-premise consumption will provide a small uptick in the city's revenues as sales tax collections reflect additional sales at local stores. New retail outlets may also be attracted to our community. Retail beer and wine sales are governed by the Texas Alcoholic Beverages Commission.
The community registered strong support for CHISD's $45 million bond proposal. The bond provides facility upgrades, technology updates, and safety and security projects for CHISD. The bond package also includes improvements that will allow the district to expand the development of a Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) program at Cedar Hill High School. Facility renovations and upgrades make up the biggest portion of the bond package at $39,069,532. The bond will allow the district to address aging facilities and HVAC systems, and replace leaking roofs. The district will also be able to build a new softball/baseball complex that will provide equal facilities for the girls and boys programs. In addition, the old administration building will be torn down.
The bond package allocates $5,270,243 for technology and infrastructure upgrades as well as $660,223 for safety and security projects.
"What is so pleasing is that this was such a resounding victory. We can truly believe the community believes in us and has confidence in us. I can't wait to see the impact of the bond passing," said School Board Trustee Doug Heyerdahl. "This will create such energy in the district. This allows us to go forward as a district and bring technology and engagement into the classroom, so thank you. This is a fresh start that takes the school district to another level."
