florida-mosquito-control.jpg

Help prevent West Nile virus bites.
What is being done? The City has contracted with Dallas County Health and Human Services to monitor the virus through weekly testing of sample mosquitoes collected from five traps. (see map) If a sample test(s) is positive for West Nile Virus then the entire district will be treated from truck-mounted sprayers. If needed, spraying will continue on up to late Sunday night. Notices will be posted on the City's website and recorded calls will be made to residences in the affected areas.
How Can I Help?By following the four Ds, Drain, Dress, Deet and and Dusk to dawn, will help protect you and your family during the season. Drain- Remove breeding sites on your property. Drain standing water, cover trash containers so they won't hold water, change birdbaths, and wading pool at least weekly, change pet dishes at least daily and check boat tarps and grill covers for trapped water. Dress- Wear long-sleeve, loose and lightly-colored clothing when doing outdoor activities. Deet - Use repellents with DEET or other FDA approved repellents and follow the instructions. Dusk to Dawn Be aware that mosquitoes are most active from just before sunset to just after sunrise.
