Library, Museum & Signature Park FAQs
The Signature Park, the Traphene Hickman Library and the Cedar Hill Museum of History are open! Take a look at the Q&A's to help you plan your visit to the Traphene Hickman Library!
1. What is the new library's name and address?
Traphene Hickman Library450 Pioneer Trail
Cedar Hill, TX. 75104
2. How many study rooms are in the new library? Can I reserve one today?
We have 8 study rooms total. Two are on the main level and 6 are on the upper level. Each room has different features, for instance some rooms have four chairs but no large table or TV and others have a large table, chairs, and a TV. Each room holds about 5 to 8 people. To reserve a room or learn what features are available, please visit the library or give us a call! You must make a reservation to be able to use the study rooms. Making reservations online is coming soon. In the meantime, in person visits and/or phone calls are the only ways to reserve a study room. You may make a reservation no more than two weeks in advance. Same day reservations are accepted but not guaranteed!
Study rooms are reserved for 2 hours. If there is no reservation after your allotted time has passed, you may request speak to a staff member about possibly extending your reservation time. If you make a reservation and fail to show within 15 minutes, your reservation will be cancelled and booked for someone else. Reservations go fast! Please give us a call if you need to cancel your reservation!
3. How many computers are in the new library?
There are about 40, to be split between the main and upper levels. Youth computers are available on the main level. Teen and adult computers are on the upper level. There are some adult computers that are located behind the main desk on the main level. Printing, scanning, copying, and faxing are available on both levels!
4. Is there a café in the new library or will there be vending machines?
Our social café features My Groovy Cafe! This local business serves coffee, matcha, and some snacks every week, Tuesdays to Fridays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is also a vending machine in the social café which serves drinks and snacks.
5. Are you accepting donations in the new library?
Donations will not be accepted until further notice. As we settle into the new library building, we will assess our donation procedure in the new space. Any updates about accepting donations will be posted on our website and social media.
6. Are the hours or phone number changing for the new library?
No. The hours are still Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays from 10am to 9pm, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. Sundays we are closed. Our phone number is still 972-291-7323.
7. What is going to happen with the old Zula B. Wylie Library?
At this time, the City of Cedar Hill has yet to decide what the plans are for the old Zula B. Wylie Library building.
8. What days/times is the Cedar Hill Museum of History open?
The Museum is open Thursdays from 12 to 8pm, Fridays from 10am to 6pm, and Saturdays from 10am to 5pm. If you have any questions about the Museum, give them a call at 972-293-3806 or visit their website!
9. Does my Zula B. Wylie Library card work at the new library or do I have to get a new one?
As long as your library card is not expired, it will still work at the new Traphene Hickman Library. The name or logo on your library card will still say "Zula B. Wylie Library" but this does not effect the use of the card. However, please feel free to ask for another library card with the new library's name at any of the service desks! If your library card is expired, please bring your I.D. (Driver's License or State I.D.) with your current address and we will give you another card or you may keep your current, renewed card. We issue free library cards to anyone who lives in Texas!
10. Can I still place interlibrary loan holds?
Yes! You may place interlibrary loan holds by filling out this request form.
If you are a Cedar Hill resident, you may also visit the Library to receive a TexShare Card. TexShare Cards allow you to check out items from libraries who are not a part of our Best Southwest Partnership (DeSoto Public Library, Duncanville Public Library, and Lancaster Veterans Memorial Library). This program is made possible by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission. Not every library in Texas participates in this program, and libraries that do participate have their own checkout policies, but you are able to search for specific libraries that do accept TexShare Cards. Have your non-expired State I.D. or Driver's License with a current address and your Traphene Hickman Library Card ready to receive your TexShare Card!
